Two airport cities, two coasts, one choice that shapes everything downstream.
The money
Alicante asks around 2,700 euros per square meter (Sept 2026); Malaga runs meaningfully higher after its decade-long boom. The same budget simply buys more on the Costa Blanca, and the gap widens again in the satellite towns: Torrevieja against Fuengirola, Benidorm against Torremolinos.
The character
Malaga has become a tech-and-culture city: forty museums, a startup quarter, an international buzz, and prices to match. Alicante stayed a working Spanish city with a beach through its center, quieter in the best sense. Both airports are major; Malaga’s network is somewhat larger, Alicante’s terminal is 15 minutes from town.
Who picks which
Pick Malaga for energy, international offices and a deeper winter scene, and accept the premium. Pick Alicante for value, ease and a more Spanish daily life, and keep the difference as renovation money or a bigger terrace. Investors chasing yield lean Alicante; lifestyle buyers split on temperament more than numbers.
