Moving to Spain from the Netherlands: what your euros buy

The Dutch were buying on the Costa Blanca before it had an airport, and EU citizenship keeps it simple: no visa, no permit, register and live. Budgets here are in euros, and the sun is included.

For a Dutch (EU) passport

No visa needed: EU citizens live, work and retire in Spain freely. After three months, register for residency and the padron at the town hall. Dutch pensions and remote work both travel well; take tax advice on the Spain-Netherlands treaty.

The real all-in cost

Add roughly 10 to 13 percent on top for taxes and fees. No currency risk: same euro.

Getting there

Year-round flights from Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Rotterdam into Alicante and Malaga, around 2.5 to 3 hours, with multiple daily departures in season.
