Bodrum or Fethiye: Picking a Turkish Aegean Base as a Digital Nomad

Turkey’s digital nomad visa (launched 2024) opened the Aegean to remote workers who want Mediterranean life outside Schengen day-counting. Two bases dominate the shortlist.

Bodrum: the scene

Bodrum is the premium peninsula: marinas, summer society, direct flights and the best restaurant scene on the coast. Remote workers get energy and connections, and pay for them: prices run double the coast’s average and the peak season crowds the infrastructure.

Fethiye: the balance

Fethiye offers the lagoon-and-mountains postcard with a working town attached, an established British community in Ovacik, and living costs a clear step below Bodrum. Winters are quieter, which cuts both ways: calm for deep work, thin for social life.

The practicalities

Both have fast fibre in town, summer short-let income potential if you travel, and Dalaman or Milas airports under an hour away. For the visa, remote income with age and income conditions applies; for property-linked residency, the $200,000 threshold and the closed-neighborhood check apply in both.

Shorthand: Bodrum if your work feeds on people, Fethiye if it feeds on focus.
